deep-in-water asked: Hi Whitney! I'm really into painting my nails and I was wondering what was the best method for painting nails to prevent smudging and easy chipping? Also how do you do your designs without getting the colours mixed together?

Hi! To help prevent chipping, always use a base coat and top coat. I use OPI Nail Envy as my base coat but there are lots of other good ones out there too! Also, apply your polish in thin layers instead of thick ones. Make sure your nail beds are free of oils and dirt and stuff before you apply your polish, too. As far as preventing smudging goes, Seche Vite is the best top coat around for fast-drying, shiny as shit nails that won’t smudge after like five minutes. I’m not totally sure what you mean about not getting the colors mixed together but I’d say the main reason is that nail polish just doesn’t mix that easily once it’s on your nail. I’m VERY careful and patient on my more intricate designs to keep the lines clean and non-mixed but polish just doesn’t really want to run together. :)
